History

This Order was founded in Venezuela as the Medal of Honor "Francisco de Miranda" on July 21, 1933. It was originally awarded to military personnel from the Army or Navy in recognition of length of service rendered to the Army.

However, the Medal was promoted Order by Congressional Decree on July 28, 1939, and it was likewise regulated on July 14, 1943. Since then, the Order has rewarded civilians for extraordinary merit within the fields of science, technology, and humanities.

Currently, the Order is the second highest official award within the country.

In Medalbook, this Order is classified into types. Type I includes the Medals for length of services of 1933, while Type II consists of the
Order of Francisco de Miranda of 1943.

In Type II, the Order consists of three grades: Grand Cross, Commander, and Knight.
