History

The Medal for Puebla (Medalla por Puebla) was authorized by the Mexican government in 1833, in recognition of the military personnel, numbering around 1350, who defended the city of Puebla against a conservative rising up, lead by Generals Arista and Duran, who looked to overthrow the liberal president Don Valentin Gomez Farias on August 6, 1833.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was awarded to Generals and Chiefs, the Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Bronze Medal to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The Government of the Unity to the Heroic Defenders of Puebla in 1833," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "The Triumphant Federation in the State of Puebla Against the Tyranny and Fanaticism S.B.G.A."
