History

The Medals in Support of the Captive King (Medalla en Apoyo al Rey Cautivo) were a group of medals engraved in South America to support King Fernando VII when he was captured by the Napoleonic troops in 1807 and remained under their guard in France for the next six years.

In Mexico, the Medals were authorized by the royalist governments of each province throughout those years. Each state designed the Medals with their own specifications, so the Medals may vary in motto, either Spanish or Latin, shape, and features.

The Puebla's Medals displays maker's mark of J. GUERRERO and F. GORDILLO M., and features Latin inscriptions.
