History

The Army Air Force Air Crew Badge was established by the United States Army Air Force on September 4, 1942. The Wings are awarded to radio operators, crew chiefs, aerial gunners, and other flight crew members upon the completion of training in flight operations or 150 combat flight hours on board military aircraft. Service hours cut short due to injury or disability incurred while serving on active duty is still eligible for the Badge. Ground personnel, non-crew members with flying status, and Officers may also be eligible to wear the Wings.

The Army Air Force Air Crew Badge is awarded in 3 grades according to the number of flight hours and years of service. The Master Wings are awarded as the highest grade.

There may be additional versions of the Master Wings.

The Army Air Force Air Crew Badge is similar in design to the Air Force Air Crew Badge.
