Physical Description and Item Details


Of typical period Chinese manufacture, consisting of an eight armed multirayed star in silver, obverse centre presenting a pronounced central blue stone with pink coral bead denoting 3rd grade, with light blue enamel background and elongated flanking silver dragons, with 'Thunder Cloud' suspension, with arms slightly concave, minor enamel loss, with mid 20th century ribbon.

History


This Order was instituted by Emperor Kuangsi in recognition of exceptional service to the throne and the Qing court. Originally, it was only awarded to foreigners, but in 1908 it was expanded to include Chinese citizens as well.

The III Class, III Grade was conferred upon Translators and lower rank Military Officers.

The Republic of China replaced the Imperial Orders following its establishment in 1912.
