This is the highest and most revered award for individual acts of gallantry and valour. It was instituted in 1919 by Sultan Mohammed IV. It is also known as "Darjah Pahlawan Yang Ama Gagah Perkasa."
The insignia is a four-pointed bronze star, with the center featuring crossed kris and sword, surrounded by a laurel wreath and entwined with a scroll with Jawi script. The star has a crown suspension. It is worn on a red crimson ribbon.
