This medal was instituted by Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria to reward Bulgarian citizens for acts of extraordinary courage and life saving, on land and sea, during natural disasters, disease, or other life-threatening circumstances.

The reverse inscription translates to “For Life Saving.”

The Type III medals were issued from 1946-1947 during the Republican Government.

These medals have a surmounting laurel wreath, an obverse inscription that translates to “For Life Saving,” and feature a blank reverse.
