This medal was awarded upon Czechoslovak citizens for rendering service that built the state and supported its economic, political, social and cultural development.

It was also conferred to recognize contribution to strengthening the State’s defense capacity.

The reverse inscription roughly translates to "For Merit in Construction."

There are two main versions of this medal.

The medals issued first were awarded between 1951-1960, and they feature the inscription "ČSR" on the obverse.

The medals issued second were awarded between 1960-1989, and they feature the inscription "ČSSR" on the obverse.
