History

The Decoration for Merit in the Transportation Industry was established by the Council of Ministers in 1976. It was awarded by the Minister of Communications to Polish citizens in recognition of meritorious service to road, rail, water, and air transport in Poland. It was discontinued following the collapse of the communist regime in 1989, but a similar award was established by the Republic of Poland in 1997.

The II Class Medal features initials on the obverse that stand for "Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa" (Polish People's Republic) with an additional inscription that translates to "For Merit in Transportation." The reverse inscription translates to "Minister of Communications."
