The obverse inscription translates to "WAR FOR LIBERATION AND INDEPENDENCE 1876-1878" and the reverse translates to "SHUMATOVATZ, NISH, AK-PALANKA, PIROT, GRDELITZA, VRANJA, SV. NICOLA, ADLIJE".

The Type I of the Silver Medal has a solid eye-loop and Type II a cilindrical eye-loop.
