The Order was instituted by Sultan Mahmud II. It was conferred for general merit, and was commonly awarded to foreigners.
The Order is also known as the Order of Glory or the Order of Iftihar.
It was replaced by the Order of Medjidjie in 1852.
The obverse of all the Order's versions feature the cypher of the Sultan Mahmud II.
The inscription below is a translation of the Arabic script on the obverse.
After the death of the original recipient, the medals were returned to the mint and reused.
