The Medal was founded by King Victor Emmanuel III to reward all colonial and Italian military and civilian personnel that had rendered service in the Italian campaigns in Libya from October 18, 1912 until the start of World War II.
This medal may be stamped with engraver marks, including “L.GIORGI,” “S.J.,” “CFML,” “31MI,” “E.S,” or have no engraved mark at all.
The ribbon may be decorated with an assortment official clasps indicating the recipient’s terms of service, such as "1912," "1912-1913," "1913," "FEZZAN 913," "1913-1914," "FEZZAN 913-914," "1914-1915," "1915," "TRIPOLITANIA 1915," "1915-1916," "1916," "1916-1917," "1917," "1917-1918," "1918," "1918-1919," "1919," "1919-1920," "1920," "1920-1921," "1921," "1922," "1923," "1924," "1925," "1926," "1927," "TRIPOLITANIA 1927-1928," "1928," "1929," "TRIPOLITANIA 1929-1930," "1931."
