History


The Medal for the Council of Mesta was established in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on May 31, 1815. It was awarded to the members of the Council of Mesta who participated in the meetings of 1815 and 1818. Probably, the Medal was awarded to the members of the council due other meetings.

The Council of Mesta (Honrado consejo de la Mesta) was founded by King Alphonso X in 1273. It was a powerful Spanish association of ships ranchers, who met once or twice at year to discuss agreements regarding to commercial trades between them. This Council was abolish in 1836.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "To the Honorable Council of Mesta, Ferdinand VII," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Year of 1815."
