History

The Medal for the Duke of Ciudad Rodrigo by Don Mariano Rodrigo was authorised in Spain by the General Courts at behest of Don Mariano Rodrigo, Deputy of Charcas, in 1813. It was founded in recognition of the Duke of Ciudad Rodrigo, Arthur Colley Wellesley (1769-1852,) who defeated the French troops in several important Spanish victories at the Peninsular War.

The Medal was awarded to Arthur Colley Wellesley.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Wellington Duke of Ciudad Rodrigo," and a reverse inscription that could be translated to "Victory of Vitoria, By the Providence of Charcas Don Mariano Rodrigo Year 1813."
