The Commemorative Medal for Foreign Missions or Operations was established by Royal Decree on April 13, 1993. It is awarded to civilian and military personnel of the Belgian Armed Forces in recognition of a minimum of one month of outstanding service in NATO and United Nations peace-keeping missions abroad. It may also be awarded posthumously.
The following bronze clasps are authorised for wear with this Medal to signify the operation(s) or mission(s) in which the recipient participated:

Campaign clasps were discontinued in 2004. Currently, bronze numeral clasps are awarded to denote the number of service missions in which the recipient has participated.
The obverse inscription appears in French and Dutch and translates to “Foreign Missions or Operations.”
