The Decoration for the 50th Anniversary of Belgian Railways was established by Royal Decree on April 30, 1884.

The II Class Medal was created shortly after the I Class Cross, and was awarded to Belgian railroad workers for 25 years of long and faithful service. The reverse inscription translates to "May 1, 1884."
