History

The Medal for the Commission of the Council of Five Hundred was worn by each of the 25 members of the Commission.

There may have been two grades of the Medal, although it is uncertain if this is accurate, or what distinction was made between them, and also how many of each grade would have been produced. It is possible that versions with different compositions are merely a result of later production.

The obverse inscription translates to "The Law of 19 Brumaire, Year VIII," and the reverse inscription translates to "Commission of the Council of Five Hundred."
