A cross pomme constructed of silver gilt. The obverse bears a raised border. The reverse is engraved with the name of the recipient. With a loop for suspension, on a black ribbon. Measuring 43 mm x 58 mm and weighing 21 grams.
The Workers' Cross for Women was founded by Grand Duchess Louise in 1896. The cross was conferred upon female workers in recognition of long, meritorious, and uninterrupted service in one field. The cross was awarded for 30 and 50 years service.
In 1902, the board of the Baden Women's Association issued official regulations for the cross. The reverse featured the engraved name of the recipient. When a higher class of the cross was obtained, the lower had to be returned. Upon the death of the recipient, the cross did not have to be returned.
Individuals submitted applications for the Workers' Cross for Women through the mayor's offices. Applications had to be received by the Grand Ducal District Offices by July 15 of each year. The application first had to be approved by the board of the Badischer Frauenverein and then approved by the Grand Duchess. The award ceremonies took place on September 9, the birthday of Grand Duke Friedrich I. In the first year of the award, a total of 435 crosses were awarded.
The names of recipients were published in the papers of the Badischer Frauenverein until 1914 when the award was discontinued.
