History

The Nursing Long Service Cross was established by Grand Duke Ludwig IV and was conferred upon individuals who rendered exceptional care of the sick and wounded during times of peace.

Candidates for the cross were not limited to nursing professionals.

The cross is similar in appearance to the cross for Medical Workers (Militär-Sanitäts-Kreuz).

The Gilt Cross for 25 Years replaced the Gilt Cross for 20 Years in around 1908 to 1910.
