The Commemorative Coronation Medal, 1905 was instituted by Prince Leopold IV in commemoration of his succession to the throne of Lippe. Following the death of heirless Prince Alexander, there was a dispute as to whether Count Leopold of Lippe-Biesterfeld or Prince Adolph of Schaumburg-Lippe would ascend the throne. The issue was taken to the Imperial Court and it was decided on October 25, 1905, that Count Leopold of the Lippe-Biesterfeld line would reign over the Principality of Lippe.
The medal was conferred upon individuals such as the members of the court who helped Leopold IV come into power.
Richard Diller of Dresden designed the medal.
