History

The Commemorative Campaign Medal, 1848 was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II and was conferred upon military personnel who demonstrated bravery and merit during the First Schleswig-Holstein War.

Relatively few men from Mecklenburg-Schwerin were sent to participate in the conflict, and therefore relatively few individuals were eligible to receive the medal. As such, the medal is quite rare.
