Physical Description and Item Details


In bronze, measures 34.20x33.90mm. Fine quality cross with good details, mounted on original ribbon 25mm wide. In very fine condition. Extremely rare reduced size for Ladies, standard cross measuring 40mm.

History


The Military Merit Cross was originally founded by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II and was conferred upon military personnel, regardless of rank, for demonstrating bravery during specific military campaigns and wars.

The Type III crosses were conferred to reward meritorious service rendered during the Second War of Schleswig.

The II Class Cross was also awarded to women.
