History

The Long Service Cross was founded by Grand Duke Georg on July 1, 1846, and was conferred upon officers and high-ranking military officials who had had long and illustrious military careers.

The crosses for officers were originally composed of gold, but were later composed of bronze gilt.

The award became obsolete after Mecklenburg-Strelitz became a state of the Prussian Empire.

The Gold Cross for 25 Years was conferred upon Officers.
