History

The Denmark War Medal was founded by King Wilhelm I and was awarded to all the officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers who had crossed the southern border of Holstein and entered the Baltic and North Sea region from February 1 to August 2, 1864.

The medal was amended in January 24, 1865 to include non-combatants who had participated in the war, but had not taken part in active combat, such as civil servants.
