The Golden Wedding Medal, 1879 was founded by King Wilhelm I to commemorate the golden anniversary of his wedding to Queen Augusta.

The III Class Medal was conferred upon staff members who were not eligible to receive the higher grades of the medal. 100 copies were minted. The III Class was made of copper and does not contain any enamel.
