History

The Reserve Long Service Decoration was originally founded by King Wilhelm I in a single class.

The decoration was amended by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in 1842 to include a II Class Bar. The bar was redesigned by King Wilhelm II into a II Class Medal on July 4, 1913.

The I Class Cross was conferred upon officers and military doctors with the rank of officer in recognition of 20 years of overall exemplary military service.
