In gold and enamels, 30.4mm(width) x 34.4mm(height), of excellent quality manufacture (solid gold cross), unmarked, very tiny enamel chipping to the center, circa 1880’s, in extremely fine condition and very rare.
The Civil Honour Decoration was instituted by Prince Heinrich XX (Senior Line) and was conferred in recognition of exceptional long-term service within a field of labour or in a civil service position.
In 1902, the name of the Honour Cross was changed to Merit Cross.
The Senior Line crosses were worn on a dark blue ribbon with two large red stripes along each exterior edge.
The I Class Gold Cross was strictly conferred upon high-ranking court officials.
There were only three examples of the I Class Gold Cross with Diamonds awarded.
