Physical Description and Item Details


A smooth Maltese cross with a decorative line about 2 cm from the edge, constructed of copper gilt. The obverse centre medallion features the crowned monogram ‘GFC II’. The medallion ring is hatched and raised. The reverse is similar, except that the medallion features the Roman numeral ‘XX’. On a loop for suspension, on a blue ribbon with white side stripes.

History


The Military Long Service Decoration was established on March 22, 1838 by Prince Günther Friedrich Carl II. The award was conferred upon military personnel who had rendered long and faithful service.

Three separate decorations were created for officer ranks: Gold Cross for 20 Years, Gold Cross for 20 Years with Crown, and Gold Cross for 20 Years for Royalty.
