History


The Civil Merit Medal was instituted on November 6, 1806 by King Friedrich I of Württemberg. The medal was awarded to recognise exceptional civil merit and service.

The Type III medals were instituted by King Wilhelm I and feature his left-facing portrait on the obverse.
