Physical Description and Item Details


Constructed of gilded silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a rightward-facing profile of Wilhelm II circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of “DEM VERDIENST” inside of a laurel wreath, unmarked, measuring 28.26 mm in diameter, weighing 13.3 grams (inclusive of ribbon), minor tarnishing evident, in better than very fine condition.

History


The Civil Merit Medal was instituted on November 6, 1806 by King Friedrich I of Württemberg. The medal was awarded to recognise exceptional civil merit and service.

The Type V medals were instituted on June 26, 1892 by King Wilhelm II and feature his portrait on the obverse.
