History

The 18th ‘Horst Wessel’ Division was raised in 1944 with the 1st SS (Motorized) Brigade as the nucleus of the unit. The members of the division were primarily young volunteers from Hungary and Yugoslavia. The division included the 39th and 40th SS Panzergrenadier regiments.

Foreign SS volunteers were not permitted to wear SS runes and instead, they were issued collar tabs that were unique to their division.

The collar tab of the division featured the SA emblem.
