History

The Freikorps von Oven Sports Medal was instituted by Major Milisch, commander of the 3rd battalion of the Freikorps, for the sporting event of September 10, 1919. It is round and was made of silvered copper.

The badge features a naked runner holding a laurel branch, facing to the viewer's left. The reverse, inside a wreath of laurel on the left and oak leaves on the right side, features the inscription "DEM SIEGER SPORTFEST III. BATL. VON OVEN 10.9.1919" (to the victor, sports festival 3rd Battalion von Oven, September 10, 1919). In front of the word "Sieger" (victor) a number could be stamped to indicate placement in an event. Some medals additionally feature which sporting event the recipient participated in.
