History


The Medal was conferred in recognition of distinguished military service and the promotion of the Hungarian Armed Forces.

The Type II medals feature enamel on the obverse medallion, and depicts the emblem of the Hungarian People's Republic surmounting crossed rifles.

There are two main version of the Type II medals.

The medals conferred from 1954 to 1956 have the 1949-1956 emblem of the Hungarian People’s Republic on the obverse. These medals were awarded to 5375 recipients.

The medals conferred from 1956 to 1965, have the 1957-1989 emblem of the Hungarian People’s Republic on the obverse. These medals were awarded to 37619 recipients.
