The Commemorative Medal for Humanitarian Services After Disasters was established by Royal Decree in 1971. It is awarded to Dutch military personnel in recognition of humanitarian aid.

The medal is awarded with a clasp to denote the type of service that was rendered. These include "TUNESIE 1969/1970" for aid following the flood of 1969, "SOEDAN 1974" for aid following the drought of 1974, "RWANDA 1994" for providing aid to refugees, "ALBANIE 1999" for providing aid to refugees, "TSUNAMI 2004" for aid in Asia and Africa following the 2004 tsunami, "PAKISTAN 2005" for aid following the 2005 earthquake, "HAITI 2010" for aid following the earthquake of 2010, “WEST-AFRIKA 2014” for aid following the Ebola outbreak in 2014, “DOMINICA 2015” for aid following tropical storm Erika, and "EGEÏSCHE ZEE 2016" for providing aid to refugees in the Mediterranean.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "The Helping Hand Was Provided.”
