The KXVIII Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1936. It was awarded to the members of the KXVIII Submarine who served on the 1934-1935 observation mission.

The Silver Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to "Government Surveying Commission, Pendulum Observations." A total of 37 were awarded.
