History

The British Red Cross Society Medal for the Balkan Wars 1912-13 was instituted in 1913 and awarded to members of British Red Cross units who served during the Turco-Balkan War between 1912 and 1913 or in the Balkan Allies War in 1913, as well as to other nationals who aided the British units. It is estimated that 196 Silver Medals were awarded to British Units and 72 Silver Medals were awarded to other nationals.

The clasps "BALKAN WAR 1912-13" or "BALKAN ALLIES WAR 1913" were awarded with the Medal as brooch clasps. Additionally, the following 5 clasps denoting the area served were authorized for wear with the Medal:

1. "TURKEY"
2. "SERVIA"
3. "MONTENEGRO"
4. "GREECE"
5. "BULGARIA"

There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by design.
