History

The Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry Medal was instituted in 1900 and awarded to Officers and men of the Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry who served in South Africa with the 3rd Imperial Yeomanry Battalion and the 66th Imperial Yeomanry Battalion during the Second Anglo-Boer War.

There are 3 versions of the Silver Medal which differ by reverse engraving. The first version was awarded to members who fought in the 3rd Battalion from 1900 and depicts the numeral “3” and the inscription, “1900 SOUTH AFRICA 1901.” The second version was awarded to members who also fought in the 3rd Battalion but since 1901. It depicts the numeral “3” and the inscription, “1901 SOUTH AFRICA 1902. The final version was awarded to members of the 66th Battalion, and depicts the numeral “66” and the inscription, “1900 SOUTH AFRICA 1901.”

There may be additional versions of the Silver Medal which differ by manufacturer.
