This medal was awarded to my grandfather who served in China during WWII as a US Naval Doctor. I was hoping someone might know more about what the medal stands for, the "grade level" as I think there are 7 or 9 grades of this type medal, materials of construction, value and rarity. Also, was wondering what the Chinese words on the back mean. Thanks for any help you may be able to give. Phil
Phil,
This is the Order of the Cloud and Banner, or the Order of the Resplendent Banner. You have here the 6th class (of 9 total), noted by ribbon colour/pattern and the rosette. Created 1935 and awarded for aiding in the settling of internal unrest. It is of silver gilt and enamel.

Phil,
Just wanted to jump in here and contribute my "2 cents". From my experience, Chinese orders go through waves, influenced heavily by Chinese foreign policy and monetary decisions. Currently, I would think that order would be 1100 USD approximately.

Thanks Oleg and TH for your replies! Phil
