History

The 20th of July 1944 Wound Badge was founded by Adolf Hitler and was conferred upon individuals who were severely injured during the July 20th, 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life. The Badge was also posthumously awarded to the individuals who were killed during the attempt, or later succumbed to their injuries.

The decoration is very similar in design to the standard Wound Badge awarded during the Second World War, but this badge features the facsimile of Hitler's signature and the date of the attack on the obverse.

There were 24 badges awarded in total.
