The decoration was instituted between July 1943 and August 1944 by General Bernhard Waber.

The plaque is rectangular and shows a Luftwaffe eagle with swastika over three smaller and one large crest, with two propellers between the smaller and the large crest. The large crest three oak leaves and a laurel twig on each side. The smaller crests read "Agram", "Skoplje" and "Tirana", and the large crest reads "Belgrad". Underneath is the inscription: for special merits / the commanding general and commander-in-chief of Feldluftgau XXX.
The reverse is semi-hollow. The award came with a document.

The German title of this award is "Ehrenplakette des Feld-Luftgaues XXX".
