  • remarks
The Order is known to be produced by both local and British manufacturers. Due to the uncertainty and complexity surrounding Afghanistan awards, there may be additional classes and types associated with the Order of the Star (Nishan-i-Astour). Varying types may exist in accordance to different time periods or monarchs. Some sources posit that an additional type was instituted in 1960, consisting of I Class. Subsequent research is needed.

History

The Order of the Star (Nishan-i-Astour) was established by Amir Abdu'r Rahman around 1901. The Order originally awarded in a single class in recognition of faithful service provided to the nation. The Order was later modified and expanded into 4 Classes by King Muhammad Zahir Shah.

There is expected to be additional versions associated with the Order which vary by design and composition according to the time period or monarch of institution. However, due to uncertainty and complexity surrounding the award, these are not featured here.
