History

The Samoa Medal of Honor was instituted by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa by the Honours and Awards Act on August 25, 1999. It is conferred upon citizens, or foreigners in the form of an Honorary Award, to reward acts of conspicuous courage displayed in situations of extraordinary danger where there is a potential for the loss of personal life.

Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters SMH.

The award is accompanied with a certificate and a miniature version of the medal and ribbon.
