This medal was established in commemoration of the coronation of Czar Nicholas II. It was conferred upon all civil servants, military personnel, and others who participated in preparation of the ceremonies. The medal could also be presented to women.
The obverse inscription translates to: "By the Grace of God Nicholas II Emperor and Autocrat of All Russias." The reverse inscription translates to: "Crowned in Moscow on 14 May 1896".
