Cross measures approximately 35x35mm, and is worn on left breast suspended on ribbon. Value of higher-end Russian Orders varies greatly; value depends on period and quality of manufacture, provenance, and the maker; as well as value of the Russian currency and general economic situation in Russia.There may be minor differences with the design and size of this cross. A Russian made, pre 1917 manufactured cross is scarce.

History

This Order was founded by Catherine the Great. It was at first created as a purely civilian award. It was conferred upon those who served the state for at least 35 years. In addition, it was conferred upon those who had assisted during emergencies, epidemics, or famine, and those who had saved others from danger. It could also be bestowed upon the clergy and to those who had made distinguished contributions to their professions.

The Non-Christians version of this badge features the image of the Imperial Eagle.
