The Restoration of the Black Metallurgical Enterprises Medal was instituted on May 18, 1948 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The Restoration of the Black Metallurgical Enterprises Medal was a civilian state award of the Soviet Union.

This medal was conferred in recognition of developing and assisting to restore heavy industry and black metallurgical enterprises in the south. The obverse depicts a steel working leaning on a shovel with a steel plant and the sun in the background.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Restoration of Black Metallurgical Enterprises". The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "Labour in the USSR-A Matter of Honour".
