The Medal for Victory Over Japan was established on September 30, 1945. This medal was conferred in recognition of direct service in Japan's defeat during WWII. Over 1,800,000 medals were awarded.

Variation I has the suspension ring soldered onto the medal.

Variation II has the ring made with the medal in the shape of a U, and will likely show filing marks.

Variation III has a ring made with medal and has a gold wash on the surface.

The obverse Russian inscription translates: "For Victory Over Japan". The reverse is dated "3 September 1945".
