History

This Order was named after the military leader Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov (1730-1800), who never lost a battle. The name was used to rally Russian soldiers during WWII, when it was going badly for the Russian forces.

This medal was awarded to regimental, battalion and company commanders, as well as regimental chiefs of staff. It was conferred for decision-making in a bold attack against a superior enemy and subsequent destruction, and for resistance against a superior enemy's attack.

The serial numbers range from 2,142 to 11,554.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "Alexander Suvorov". The reverse is hallmarked "МОНЕТНЬИI ДВОР".
