In Gold, weighing 31 grams inclusive of its suspension, number impressed "7943" on the reverse, measuring 31.3 mm (w) x 33.3 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, lightly soiled original ribbon, mounted to a rectangular-framed suspension with screwback, Monetny Dvor mint marked on the screwback, contact marks, better than very fine. Accompanied by its Award Booklet (named to the recipient "Alexander Budir" in Russian, numbered "875018", dated October 15, 1953).
The highest labour distinction in the USSR, awarded to Soviet citizens for notable and distinguished achievements in national economy and culture. The Gold Sickle and Hammer Medal was instituted to provide a visible means of recognition to those who were awarded the title.
The award could be conferred more than once.
There are several variations on this medal. The first has serial numbers that measure 1.75mm, from numbers 999 or below. The second has numbers that start with 1,000 and end at 9,999, and these measure 1mm in height. The third has serial numbers that start from 10,000 and above, which measure 1 to 1.5mm in height and appear below the inscription.
The reverse inscription translates to: "Hero of Socialist Labour".
