The Medal for Military Merit is awarded to Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the National Liberation Army and the People's National Army for 20 years of meritorious service. It may also be awarded to recipients of the Medal of the Wounded (with army citation) for 15 years of service, regardless of rank.

Recipients are required to wear the medal on all official occasions.
