History

This Medal was established by Emperor Haile Selassie I in 1952 in commemoration of his ascension to the Imperial Ethiopian throne.

It was awarded to those who attended the coronation, and those who participated in and helped prepare for the ceremonies.

The obverse and reverse feature inscriptions in Ge'ez script that can be translated to "Haile Selassie the First," and "Ethiopia Shall Reach Her Hand Unto God," respectively.
